On an iPhone or iPad

  1. 1

    Open this page in Safari

If someone sent you a link, copy it into Safari. Use myheirloom.life/install.

  2. Tap Share

Look for the square with an arrow pointing up. You may need to open Safari’s menu first.

  3. Tap “Add to Home Screen”

Scroll down in the Share menu. If it’s missing, look under “Edit Actions.”

  4. Keep the name Heirloom and tap Add

Leave “Open as Web App” on if it appears. You’ll find the green tree beside your other apps.

On an Android phone

Open Heirloom in Chrome. Tap the three-dot menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen, and follow the instructions.

Your first story

  1. Open the green Heirloom icon and log in if asked.
  2. Tap Start recording. Tap Allow when your phone asks to use the microphone.
  3. Tell your story. Use Pause when you need a break.
  4. Tap Finish recording, then Save our story. Wait for confirmation.

Keep Heirloom open and your phone unlocked while recording. Calls or switching apps can interrupt the microphone.

If something interrupts you

Open Heirloom again on the same device, using the same browser or Home Screen app. If a recovery copy is available, it will appear so you can listen and save it. Recovery isn’t guaranteed after a crash or if browser data is cleared.

You need an internet connection to open your archive and save a story online. If saving fails, keep the page open and use Keep a copy to download the recording.

The microphone won’t start? Check your phone’s website permissions for Heirloom. You can also upload an existing recording from the recording page.
